ONE TWO TREE
We love One Two Tree. One of our all time favourites. Stylish. Sustainable. And our first love was the super stylish and eco friendly wooden Christmas Tree. The best. Now we want one of everything in our home.
Lucy is the beauty and co-creator behind the business. And we had a chat to her about where it all began, her favourite piece and what is next for One Two Tree.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS ONE TWO TREE.
One Two Tree is proudly Australian made and supports artisan craftsmanship. We’re about creating bespoke products from wooden to linen graphic prints. The best part is that our wooden products are eco-friendly and made from premium grade Australian hoop pine plywood that are grown sustainably in the Yarraman region of Queensland.
AND WHAT MADE YOU START UP YOUR BUSINESS.
Starting One Two Tree was unintentional. We just had our first baby and we were searching for our first family Christmas tree but everywhere we looked, we saw cheap throwaway trees that wouldn’t last the festive season and we didn’t see a point in chopping down a tree for short-term decoration. We wanted something that was well-crafted as well as environmentally friendly but nothing ticked the boxes. So we decided to make our own.
We created our first prototype Christmas Tree from scratch using some leftover hardwood off-cuts from one of my partner’s landscaping contracts. We soon realised that we had created something truly unique, practical and perfect for us.
It wasn’t until I had packed away the Christmas Tree prototype that I really thought of product development, and that maybe everyone else can enjoy it in their homes. From then on, we were inspired to make more products like our Message Boards, Treasure Boards and Little Aussie Treasures.
WE LOVE YOUR WORK, CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PRODUCTS. AND DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE.
Our products are simple yet stylish for the home. It has a timeless look, especially with our Christmas Trees, as they can be updated with individual looks year after year. My favourite product will always be our first and original Christmas Tree. Till this day, I still think it’s a genius product because of it’s minimal simplicity and timeless elegance and that it can be flat packed and stored away nicely as it waits for the next festive season.
One Two Tree has grown a lot from our beloved One Two Tree - Christmas Tree to our latest products. Using the Christmas Tree flat pack concept, our newer products like the Treasure Boards incorporates the same idea. A lot of my inspirations for the products come from my children, which can also be seen in the Little Aussie Treasures collection.
THROUGHOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT SO FAR IS.
In the beginning it was just me and my partner Antony, we had so many knock backs with the same reply that our Christmas Trees were way too time-consuming, fiddly and expensive to make. With my hungry persistence, we finally came across a retired engineer who was willing to give it a go and thanks to him we made One Two Tree a legitimate Australian made product.
I guess the lesson I’ve learnt there is that I should never give up, to keep searching and to just carry on no matter what is thrown your way. Another thing I’ve learnt was not to rush it. I wanted to get it off the ground but I couldn’t risk overlooking the details. This can also be good advice for someone who is planning to start a small business.
AND WHAT IS PLANNED FOR ONE TWO TREE'S FUTURE.
We plan to keep on expanding by making more of the products that our customers would love and to not stray away from our fundamental values of producing well-crafted sustainable homeware.
