We loved finding Norte last year. And our girls LIVE in their Norte wear. The best!
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, NORTE.
Well Norte was founded in 2015 by both Casey and I. I guess you could say that we’re free spirits and love adventure, always have! With lots of little people in our world, we realised that there was a lack of kids outdoor adventure gear. You realise these things when you’re on the hunt for something specific and realise that what you want simply isn’t there. So we went on a mission to change the game in kids wear and it’s been a blur ever since!
We’re a family business, headed up by two sisters with many amazing supporters helping us along the way. We love the outdoors, especially the coast. We were lucky enough to have a very adventurous and active lifestyle growing up and we wanted that spirit of adventure to carry through in Norte. Norte, put simply, is gear designed and built for play, and you know what? We reckon there’s something a little bit magical in our gear, it definitely gets kids and families outdoors and looking for adventure!
AND SINCE LAUNCHING NORTE, HOW MUCH HAVE YOU GROWN.
Initially, Norte was intended to be a bit of a hobby on the side but the universe has had other ideas! We’ve just launched our second winter line and things have gone from strength to strength! Whilst we are known for our warm winter gear, we’re continuing to expand our product range with a focus on those practical items that families are crying out for, with our unique Norte style! Currently we’re working on our second summer line, which we wouldn’t have imagined at the start!
We’ve more than doubled in size in the last 6 months and have built up a wonderful, loyal customer base that keep coming back for more gear! Which we absolutely love, as no one returns to the scene of a bad shopping experience right?! It takes a lot of work and a lot of help from our tribe of amazing families, adventurers and photographers to keep the wheels turning!
WE LOVE A GOOD WARM JACKET AND BEANIE DOWN HERE IN TASMANIA. WHAT MAKES YOURS A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO OTHER BRANDS.
There are many kids jackets on the market but what we found was that they were either stylish, but impractical for the outdoors and lacking in real warmth, or they came with hefty a price tag. I think the point of difference in our jackets is the combination of practical features and cool designs along with an attractive price tag for families.
We often get feedback about how much kids actually love wearing our jackets because of the comfort factor, as we’ve been able to achieve warmth and durability without feeling like a bulky snowman! We’ve been able to make a number of enhancements to our original designs and will continue to do that. We felt really strongly about staying away from the use of animal down and instead were able to source an alternative high-quality insulation to provide warmth. Add that to the soft jersey lining and the durable outer shell, it’s an all-round cozy, comfy jacket that kids don’t want to take off! That said, we were always intent on creating a product that is eye catching, seriously cool and stands apart from all other others so we always have the end finish and overall look at front of mind.
WE ALSO LOVE THAT YOU SUPPORT SO MANY CAUSES LIKE CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE MORE AND HOW YOU ARE INVOLVED.
For sure, this is the best part! From the beginning, we talked at length about our mission at Norte and our own values and wanted to reflect those in the way we do business. We know ourselves that people like to connect with something more than a product and increasingly, people really care about the integrity of a brand and what they do to contribute to something bigger than themselves.
From a charitable perspective, we support a number of causes that are close to our hearts. One of our initiatives is providing brand new, warm Norte Jackets to the Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre’s. Domestic violence in Australia is rife and so many women and children find themselves fleeing violence and are often forced to leave home without the essentials. Our jackets are provided to kids upon arrival at a response centre and hopefully, this makes a small difference in what would be a traumatic time.
This summer just gone, we donated a portion of proceeds from sales to support the critical work of Save the Children, who have been on the front line aiding children and families devastated by the conflict in Syria.
At a community level, we’re focused on supporting a range of initiatives that contribute in some way to us seeing happy, thriving kids and communities! We’re proud sponsors of the Bass Coast Cycle Challenge, the Inverloch Youth Girls Football team, the YMCA Smimathon and countless fundraisers for schools and various causes.
We love being able to throw our support behind people and this genuinely motivates us to grow Norte so that we can continue to scale up our charitable efforts.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING A BUSINESS.
Ooooh, plan well but be adaptable to change, listen to your customers, engage with people, show the love as often as possible, it always come back! Don’t stop when you hit a wall, smash the wall down, scale the wall or dig a hole and climb underneath the wall, just don’t stop! Quality is important but perfectionism kills momentum. Smile, always.
AND WHAT IS PLANNED FOR NORTE'S FUTURE.
We are excited about the future at Norte. You’ll see an evolution of our jacket range and accessories, offering the same quality and style that you’ve come to know and love, along with our unique stamp on every design. We’re also working on some very cool top secret creations, but what we can tell you is that when the warmer months roll back around, Norte will have your kids covered while they adventure in style!

SOMETHING YOU ARE TERRIBLE AT.
AMY. Math, directions, controlling laughter at inappropriate times.
CASEY. Cannot cook an egg and keep the yolk runny… unhappy kids.
SECRET HIDDEN TALENT.
AMY. I can balance a glass or a bottle on my head for an unusually long amount of time. Seriously, you would think it’s been glued on there!
CASEY. Pretty handy on the tools, might consider a furniture making career in the future!
WORD THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH.
Oh easy! Fatigue. When Casey was in school, a class mate pronounced it like ‘FAT – I – GEW’ and we’ve never let it go, so now when some one is tired? “I feel FAT-I-GEW’D”
CAREER HIGHLIGHT SO FAR.
We recently managed to get together a group of our family and friends who have supported us in our journey so far. We met at Kilcunda, one of our favourite wild and rugged spots on the Victorian Coast. We were joined by an amazing film maker Manny Cole, who beautifully captured our tribe of Norte kids at play. Perfect day, place and people.
