Moon Jelly. The sweetest threads for your little ones. All dreamt of and designed by a dynamic duo. Alicia and Skye. Not only do they make rocking threads. They have a rocking vibe and are rocking Mama's to little ones. We first fell in love with the Cockatoo Print. And now. Adore everything. The prints. The style. The colour. The ladies.
Skye is based in Melbourne. Mama to four-year-old Willow and two-year-old Lucas. After finishing a Fashion Degree, she has worked in fashion ever since. And for some pretty big names. Like Rip Curl, Shock Absorber UK for Victoria Secret, Russell Athletic and Target. Just to name a few.
Alicia is based in Newcastle. Mama to eight-year-old Macy and three-year-old Lyla. She has worked in Event Management, has almost finished a Bachelor of Business Marketing, studied fashion and worked in the industry. And always loved creating her own kids wear on the side.
So the two beauties combined their awesome and created Moon Jelly.
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT HOW YOUR BUSINESS BEGAN.
Skye and I went to school together over 20 years ago. We had a chance park catch-up a few years ago in Melbourne, as new mums with little ones in tow. This lead us to chatting about the need to do something creative that we were able to do whilst spending time with our young families. 12 months later, and lots of creative designing and brainstorming, and we went into partnership to create Moon Jelly.
WE ADORE THE NEW DESIGNS. SUPER CUTE. CAN YOU TELL US WHAT INSPIRED THIS SEASONS PRINTS AND STYLES.
Thank you! We absolutely love playing with graphics and creating original artwork. We love Australia, and love creating fun prints that come from our roots, in a pop and colourful kind of way that’s really fun for kids to wear.
THROUGHOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT SO FAR.
It's really really really hard work. There are lots of sacrifices that we have made and our families have made to support us along the way.
AND WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST HURDLE.
Our biggest business hurdle is that we both live in different states. I’m in Newcastle, Sydney and Skye’s in Melbourne. We do catch up every now and then. It was easier in the beginning when our kids were babies, but now we have to rely a lot more on email, phone and skype sessions!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WANTING TO START A SMALL BUSINESS.
You have to absolutely love what you do in every way. If the passion is there it will keep you going through the tough times.
CRAZY QUESTION. AND WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO JUGGLE. BUT HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE MUM LIFE WORK LIFE BALANCE.
I think we both have strong family networks around us. Although for Skye it’s been a bit more challenging as she spent the majority of the past few years as a sole parent. We both work as much as we can, when we can and remind ourselves often that family always comes first.
AND WHAT IS PLANNED FOR MOON JELLY'S FUTURE.
Hopefully some more Cockatoos in some new styles! Lots more creative sessions (hopefully together) and we are really hoping to increase our retail stockists around Australia and hopefully further afield!

@emmakateco Because she just has the most gorgeous inspiring feed – and we had a stand right next to her at Life Instyle last year. Such a beautiful soul.

WORD THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH.
ALICIA. Spin. When my daughter says it as she says ‘Fin’ as in her dresses must ‘fin around’. SKYE. The way Lucas says deeply and somberly “OK” makes me laugh every time – he sounds like Mr Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street.
WORD THAT MAKES YOU CRINGE.
ALICIA. iPhone. When my three year old says it in the context of “Mum can I’ve your iPhone” causE you know those app icons are never going to be in the same place again.
SKYE. Apple stickers. So annoying! Weird I know!
ALICIA. Snakes. I’ve had a few close calls with slithery visitors at home lately!
