HONEY & CO CLUB

Anyone that has already joined the Honey & Co Club will know just how amazing the Monthly Gifts really are. Mini is beyond excited to get hers each month. She loves 'presents'. And honestly. They are one of the only things that amuse the little firecracker. And give Mama a little sanity-time-out.

We choose to be as tech free as possible at home. We love to learn. We love to play. We love to interact. We love colour. We love fun. Honey & Co Club are all of those things and more.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, HONEY & CO CLUB.
Honey & Co Club is Australia's Postal Club for Kids. We provide monthly kids gift subscriptions for preschool aged children. Aimed at 0-3 years and 3-5 years.

Each month is a surprise and has a different theme. We include quality wooden toys, books, feeding utensils, craft or outdoor activities. All presented in our exclusive printed canvas pouches. These canvas bags are proving to be super popular with mums as they have so many uses after their little one enjoys the goodies inside, and each month is a different colour or design.

Our gift subscriptions are proving to be popular with grandparents and aunts and uncles as a 'gift that keeps on giving' and also have been applauded by parents who see the joy their little one receives by receiving something in the mail especially addressed to them. We really wanted to get children excited again about the touch and feel reality of the letterbox, just like the good old days! In this world full of technology for our little ones, I think it's important to have that balance.

WHAT MADE YOU START UP YOUR BUSINESS.
There are a couple of different reasons for starting up my little business. I had a tough time returning to work after my little girl was born, my actual position was no longer available. After ten years with the company it was a bit of a shock and horror. I come from the Events Industry and took up a couple of contract positions but the hours were pretty tough. It was after a short time that I realised this was my opportunity to create the life I want for our family, flexibility wise. I had an idea niggling at me for nearly a year. As my 2 year old daughter was so thrilled to receive parcels every now and then from her Nana and Aunties that live in regional Victoria, I thought, Wow, I should pop something in the letterbox for her regularly to find, then I also thought I'm sure all children would absolutely love this.

With the a-mazing support from my husband, who has always been the voice on my shoulder saying “You can do this, You need to do this” Honey & Co Club was launched.

WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM.
The name comes from our family pet yellow Labrador, Honey. Honey is the perfect mascot for Honey & Co Club, as she is gentle, caring, funny and takes a great picture! What’s a Club without a mascot? Each month we include a Honey story and a colouring in picture of Honey and her adventures. Honey hopes to reflect positive values, friendship and childhood frivolity into her ‘club’.  We hope to grow the story of Honey into children’s books in the future.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PRODUCTS.
We primarily want to encourage Play. Therefore we put together quality wooden children's toys, books and activities together in our custom printed canvas bags. We source our products from different suppliers around the country and loosely theme our kits each month. This next month is all about ‘Dinosaurs’.

THROUGHOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT SO FAR IS.
Everything takes a lot more time than you think, I often have tasks set for the day and achieve only a few, that can be frustrating but I’ve learnt patience and waiting on answers doesn’t always come instantly.  The other main lesson I’ve learnt is to understand your weaknesses, for example I thought I could build my own website at the beginning .. bad idea. One other big lesson for me is, ‘it doesn’t happen overnight but it will happen’.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WANTING TO START A SMALL BUSINESS.
If you believe in it, you need to do it! I guess we have all heard it before and it’s true, that you don’t want to get to a certain point and be left wondering ‘gee, that was a good idea, I should of done that’. Also, to make sure you do your research before you launch. For example, is there anyone already doing this?, know your market and suppliers. Create your own brand identity and stick with that, as that’s how people will recognise you.

WHAT IS PLANNED FOR HONEY & CO CLUB'S FUTURE.
We have had so many enquiries for an older age group, for example 5-7 year olds, so that is definitely in the works over the next few months.  We are about to branch out in different style of bags for our kits, just to mix it up a bit. So in the coming months we will be having drawstring bags as well as our favourite zipper bags. We will also be appearing at the upcoming One Fine Baby show in Melbourne in September so getting very excited about that. Big scale plans, we would love to develop Honey & Co into a children’s picture story book.
