KENEENA

Everyone meet Keneena. The owner. The creator. The maker. And the Babe Behind the Brand Kablooie Store. A micro fashion label for big and little people. If you love vibrant colour. Bold patterns. Fun. And fabulous fashion. Then these rocking threads are for you.

What started as a little etsy store stocking only a few girls skirts, is now a successful small business making all sorts of pieces for all ages. Keneena admits she started with no business plan. No Social Media. And no clue. She had always been making things for her daughter and herself. One day her husband suggested she start selling things online. Although she laughed it off. We are thrilled she did. And thrilled to own some amazing Kablooie Store pieces.

BABES.

BIGGEST INSPIRATION.
That's a tricky one. I admire lots of people but I don't feel like I'm trying to aspire to any one of them in particular. Now that I'm a mum, I do certainly look back and greatly admire and appreciate my own mother, more than I ever did or could as a child. Mums are pretty amazing!

WORD THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH.
Discombobulate! It's just so fun to say! Makes me feel like I should have an English accent and a bowler hat.

GUILTY PLEASURE.
Definitely an original Krispy creme donut…just the right savoury/sweet, crisp/chewy mix – heaven! And totally worth the extra burpees I have to do….

SPECIAL SKILL.
Or something you are good at that most people wouldn’t know about. Hmmm.  I can tie a snake lolly into a knot with my tongue. It has to be a genuine Allens snake tho, for sure. Doesn't work with any others.

PET PEEVE.
Incorrect grammar. No sense of humour.  And autocorrect, I really really hate autocorrect.

FREAK OUT.
Spiders and hanging out washing in the dark. I always picture myself being at the start of a scary movie – eeek.

LOVE.
COLOUR!

LOATHE.
Vacuuming. And mopping. Well actually I rarely mop so mainly vacuuming.

BEST ADVICE.
I’d say the advice that resonates most with me is to imagine myself in someone else's shoes. It sounds like a cliché. But it's incredibly powerful in making me think twice about how I communicate or react to others.

It resonates in business because I should be treating every customer like they are the most important person in the (virtual) room. It resonates on social media where it can be so easy to drop sharp words or pass judgement. To just stop, think - what if that was me? How would I feel?

CAREER HIGHLIGHT.
I think that would be collaborating with Ellie Whittaker on my new fabric design – Bananas For Mangoes. A highlight because it's the biggest leap I've taken in business, to back myself and really invest in my brand. To create something and take my business into a new space. And it's incredibly exciting to see all the possibilities now! I love Ellie's work, and she was fabulous to work with too. The launch of my new collection in April was really really hard work, but such a buzz! FABULOUS!!

TOP FIVE TO FOLLOW.
Man that is a tough question! I follow so many amazing people, for so many different reasons. I'll narrow it down to loving their products and their vibe!
@kenziecollective One of my first discoveries on Instagram and one of my favourite brands!
@bonmaxie She has cool products, she's seriously hilarious and incredibly kind too.
@elliewhittakerstudios I think she's a super duper talented designer and I love her work and style. Serious kindness vibes here too.
And I'm such a sucker for people who are clever with words, so I love to read anything from @damnwrite and @thedigitalpicnic. I could go on and on but my limit is 5 – gaaaaaah!
